Legend has it that during the Cristero War, when there was conflict between the government and the church, many of the church's treasures and riches were transported by a very friendly donkey who carried them hidden in his milk cans. On the bishop's orders, this donkey and his master brought the treasures to this house, which had been a tenement since the early 18th century. The treasures were buried beneath the washbasins, which are still intact here today.
The donkey spent the night tied to the waterwheel by the washbasins, guarding the treasures. People believed the donkey possessed magic and abilities to protect Catholics and the people who lived in this neighborhood, because at night it transformed into a blue donkey that emitted a blue glow like an angel's; people loved and cared for the donkey as a protective amulet.
Although the blue color of the donkey was nothing more than the reflection of the vapors given off by the precious metals buried in this area, the people of the town considered the blue donkey to be an amulet of good luck and protection.
